SUMMARY:Geneva: Global Challenges in Collective Bargaining at the UN Forum on Business on Human Rights
DESCRIPTION:The Labour Rights Investor Network (LRIN) is pleased to invite institutional investors to: \nGlobal Challenges in Collective Bargaining at the UN Forum on Business on Human Rights \nUN Forum on Business and Human Rights – Breakfast Side Session \nDate: Tuesday\, 25 November 2025  \nTime: 8:00 – 9:30 AM  \nPlace: Ethos Foundation office in Geneva at Place de Pont-Rouge 1\, Case Postale 1051\, CH-1211 Genève 26  \nThis session is open to institutional investors. Seating is very limited.  \nReserve your place \n  \nCollective bargaining is a cornerstone of decent work and a critical component of social stability and long-term value creation. Yet\, in many sectors\, company practices continue to challenge workers’ ability to organize and negotiate collectively\, which may generate risks for investors and undermine their commitments to respect human rights.  \nThis session\, hosted by the Labour Rights Investor Network (LRIN)\, will explore how investors can identify\, assess\, and engage companies on collective bargaining in their portfolios. Featuring perspectives from across the globe including Africa and the US\, participants will hear directly from workers\, unions and supporters about barriers they face in practice. The session will include presentations on how to identify corporate practices that impede collective bargaining and how investors have incorporated principles on collective bargaining into their stewardship company engagements.  \nParticipants will leave with practical steps for integrating collective bargaining into investor engagement strategies\, managing related reputational and operational risks\, and advancing meaningful social dialogue.

SUMMARY:Geneva: The Labour Behind AI
DESCRIPTION:UNI Global Union is pleased to invite you to a breakfast side event at the UN Forum on Business on Human Rights.  \nWhen: Wednesday 26th October\, 8.00-9.30am   \nWhere: Flory Room at the John Knox International Centre\, 27 chemin des Crêts de Pregny\, 1218 Grand-Saconnex\, Geneva  \nReserve your place \nFollowing Monday’s main session\, “Safeguarding Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”\, this side evet will take a closer look at the labour behind AI. While much attention has been given to the design\, deployment\, and use of AI systems\, far less focus has been placed on the workers powering them behind the scenes.  \nIn this session\, the panel will aim to introduce participants to the AI data supply chain and examine how major tech companies rely – via third party providers – on a vast\, mostly hidden\, supply chain of data labelers\, annotators and content moderators to train their AI models\, often replicating models of outsourcing familiar in manufacturing industries.   \nParticipants will hear directly from a data worker about the working conditions they experience\, and the discussion will explore potential pathways forward to prevent existing inequalities becoming further embedded in the development of AI and the role investors\, businesses\, and civil society can play in building fairer\, more transparent digital value chains.   \nPlease complete this form to confirm your attendance.

SUMMARY:Democratic Backsliding: Key Considerations for Global Investors
DESCRIPTION:WEBINAR: Democratic Backsliding: Key Considerations for Global Investors \nWednesday\, May 20th\, 2026 | 10 am EDT/ 3pm BST/ 4pm CEST \nREGISTER HERE \nIn 2024\, autocracies outnumbered democracies worldwide for the first time in over two decades. Nearly 40% of the global population now lives in countries experiencing “democratic backsliding\,” or the state-led weakening of institutions\, structures or norms that support democracy. The implications of this trend for institutional investors remain underexplored. \nThis webinar is designed for investors to better understand how weakening democratic institutions can shape long-term investment risk. Bringing together academic expertise and investor perspectives\, the session will examine the critical role that democracy and the rule of law play in supporting stable\, well-functioning markets\, as well as what happens when these foundations erode. It will also highlight the risks democratic backsliding poses to workers’ rights and pension security\, and explore possible investor responses. \nSpeakers:  \n\nAshley Hamilton Claxton\, Head of Responsible Investment\, Royal London Asset Management (U.K.)\nLayna Mosley\, Director of Princeton Sovereign Finance Lab\, Princeton University (U.S.)\n\nOpening Remarks: \n\nDusty Ngwane\, CWC Chair & Trustee\, Mineworkers Provident Fund (South Africa)\n\nWho should attend: \nInstitutional investors (e.g.\, ESG practitioners\, trustees) and anyone interested in the intersection of democracy\, workers’ capital and long-term investment risk. \nREGISTER HERE
